Email List FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about the new Yahoo! Groups List

Can anyone see the membership list?

No, the membership list is private, only the moderators can see the members.  Privacy is first.

How is my privacy protected on this list?

This is a private list, only members can see postings on the list.  The name of the list will come up on a Yahoo Group search, but non members will not be able to see any postings.

Is the list unmoderated?

Partially – anyone who was a previous member of the RFoPS list will not have their posts moderated (please note it will take a while upon joining for one to change your moderated status). New members will have their posts moderated initially.

Can anyone become a member?

Yes anyone can join. Please note they will be moderated when first joining the group to deter spammers and those who are not using the list properly..

Do I need to have a Yahoo id to sign up?

No. Yahoo! Groups recommends that you join a group via the group’s page. But if you want, you can simply sign up for the mailing list for the group. When you’re only on the mailing list, you don’t get access to all the group's web features (Photos, Files, Links, Polls, Calendar.) To subscribe to a group's mailing list via email, send a blank email to: RFoPS-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. When you get the confirmation message, just reply to it…and your subscription will be complete!

Do I have to use a Yahoo email account to get messages?

No, you can specify any email account as long as it is attached to your Yahoo profile and messages will be delivered to which ever email account you choose.  Or you can just subscribe as described above without a yahoo id.

How do I sign up with a Yahoo id?

To get started you’ll need to register for a Yahoo! ID and link it to any email addresses you wish to use for Yahoo! Groups.

Registration:

  1. Click on the Sign Up link on the Yahoo! Groups page.
  2. Complete the registration form and click on I Agree button to accept the Yahoo! Terms of Service.
Note: The Yahoo! ID you choose must be unique. It doesn’t need to match your email address.
  3. You should receive an email confirming your registration. Make sure to record your Yahoo! ID and password. You’ll need these to sign into Yahoo! Groups.

Setting up your account :

  • Sign in to your account to access the following features:
  • Use the Membership Wizard to locate your current subscriptions or to add up to 5 email addresses to your account.
  • My Groups allows you to manage your account and group memberships.
  • Click on the Account Info link near the top-right corner to change your Yahoo! account and profile information.

Do I have to get emails at all?

No, you can view messages on the group’s web page if you join with a Yahoo ID.  The web page is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RFoPS/

Why are you changing? I hate change!

The email list needed to be updated and more easily administered by the moderators. We wanted folks to be able to see the archives and also be able to adjust how emails come to them - whether individually or digested or even no email but read at the website only. Going in this direction allows new options like the calendar reminder, polls and a new links area. Hopefully it will be more user friendly for both the user and the moderators. If you are having any problems signing up, please contact Elisa with questions.
